Baits I Need
The following are baits I would like to add to my collection. Some are very tough and others more common but I have just not been able to secure a good example. If you have one of these please contact me. If it is a bait where I only have a catalog line drawing shown, even if your's is not for sale I would love to have a photo as somtimes the Pepper bait is slightly different than the drawing. In any event you may contact me at pepperjack@ftc-i.net. I also would be interested in any baits found that are not included in any of the pages of this site - let me know what you have.
I have listed in alphabetical order with wood baits first then composition followed by metal.
I have listed in alphabetical order with wood baits first then composition followed by metal.
Roman Trout Spinner
This very small bait (1" wood body) has a New Century spinner in front and a single fly hook on the rear. It was found in the same 1915 catalog as the bait above. Illustration and catalog are not clear on the type of eye this bait had. Colors are unknown.
Romohawk Minnow
This wood bait was also found in the same 1915 catalog but has not shown up to the best of my knowledge. According to the catalog it came in two sizes and three colors. A 20th Century spinner on the front and two treble hooks (rear one dressed). Side fins were red and eyes were painted. This one should be very easy to identify as a Pepper.
Mohawk Bass Bait
The Mohawk Bass Bait has a composition body and is the same bait as the Mohawk Minnow except it has a 20th Century spinner in front of the bait. According to the catalog it came in two sizes and three colors. Bait is circa 1920.
Three Hot Peppers
These three baits were put on one card to introduce the Pepper spinning lures. The baits were the Fish Hawk, the Full-O-Pep (style 2) and the Twinkler. Circa 1956.
Beauty Spinner.
This metal spinner was shown in a 1915 catalog with ilustrations only. Besides the above two versions the bait also came with a dressed treble hook. Spinner came in silver, copper and gold. No other information is known.
Big Moose Spinner
This bait was illustrated in the 1915 catalog. It has a pearl wobbler and nickel spinner.
Boston Spinner
This 2 1/4" lure appears to be the same body as the Rome Special with a 20th Century spinner on the front. It came with treble and single or double and single hooks. Circa 1915.
Double Hook Bass or Trout Spinner
These baits were very small (spinners about 1/2" long). The trout style had the New Century spinner and the bass style had the 20th Century spinner. Circa 1915.
Fish Scout
This is another late (1960) Pepper bait. The body was 2" long and came in hammered silver or gold finish. Actual lure may not be exactly as shown in this catalog illustration.
Fly Spoon
The 1904 catalog said this bait came in two sizes but did not specify what they were. As shown it came in two versions. A 1912 ad stated this was a "new" lure - go figure.
Fish Spinner
This very early Pepper spinner was 2 1/4" long and came only in nickel and had a dressed treble. Body is fish shaped with wings. Circa 1904.
Jersey Wobbler
This is an early Pepper bait with a pearl body and a nickel prop. Beside the hook arrangement seen in photo it also came rigged with two treble hooks. This appears to be the same as the National Pearl Wobbler except for the style prop. Circa 1915.
National Pearl Wobbler
This bait appears to be the same as the Jersey Wobbler above except it has a 20th Century spinner in front of the pearl body. Circa 1915.
Neptune
This is another of the late (1960)) Pepper baits. Length and colors unknown.
